Our Editorial Bearings

We make the reasoning behind maritime decision-support technologies easier to inspect, without presenting explanation as navigational authority.

An atlas of decisions

Bubblecactuszind is an independent information website for bridge teams, maritime technology readers and people evaluating claims about smart routing. Our organising question is simple: what decisions are hidden inside a suggested route?

We follow four connected subjects: the input picture, route alternatives, bridge prompts and operational limits. The aim is to make discussions more precise. We do not sell a navigation system, provide a live traffic service or approve equipment.

What independence means here

This site is not affiliated with the International Maritime Organization, the International Hydrographic Organization, a flag administration, a classification society or a navigation equipment manufacturer. References to those organisations identify sources and context, not endorsement.

We distinguish technical capability from marketing language. A system’s ability to recognise a pattern does not, by itself, establish the appropriateness of a manoeuvre or compliance with an obligation. We do not assign universal safety ratings to products.

How we use sources

We prioritise primary standards, conventions and institutional explanations when describing established frameworks. The IMO, IHO, the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities, the UK Hydrographic Office and the World Meteorological Organization are useful reference points for different parts of the marine information environment.

A source link is a route to further reading, not a claim that every sentence has been independently certified. Readers should check current editions, notices, local requirements and authoritative documentation for operational work. Summaries on this site cannot capture every qualification in a formal instrument.

Examples and diagrams

Our route forks and comparisons are conceptual. They contain no navigable positions, verified depths or current restrictions. References to Southampton, Rotterdam or a busy strait explain why context matters; they do not provide local sailing directions.

Corrections and questions

If a statement is unclear or appears wrong, send the page address, the passage concerned and a source supporting the correction. Avoid including confidential vessel records or personal information about third parties. We assess editorial correspondence, but do not promise a response time or provide emergency support.
